Tip # 4 – Improvement in external working conditions

If you’re an extremely sensitive person, you might be incapable of working in certain kinds of atmospheres.  You might need a window to work next to or you might just be finicky about the lighting in your work area. Whatever your pet peeves; it would be possible to improve your working area and turn it from sterile to nice. You could try putting up a nice potted plant in your cubicle area. You could, alternatively, try putting up a framed person photo. According to a newly conducted research, if you look at pictures of your loved ones, it could help you reduce stress induced pain. The easiest one to begin with – clean up your desk.

Tip # 5 – Getting into the ‘Right’ Zone

There always comes that time in the day when you begin to believe that there is so much more on your plate (work-wise) than you can deal with. No matter how much effort you put into your work each day; you still seem to ways to reduce stress in the workplacebegin each day with so much more to deal with. The truth of the matter may be that you have more work than is humanly possible for you to deal with.

The ‘Attention Zone’s Model’ which was designed and developed by Rand Stagen of Stagen’s Leadership Academy has identified four main zones of the day –

Reactive Zone

Proactive Zone

Distracted Zone

Waste Zone

According to Stagen, the important bit is staying away from the waste and distracted zones; which simply put, would translate to responding to unimportant calls or emails; killing time by surfing the web for best ways to blanch asparagus, etc. The key here would be to prioritize.

Tip# 6 – Take some time off

According to statistics, a measly 14% of the entire working American population bothered going on a vacation last year. 14% is a shocking number. The Europeans are known to work lower number of hours than the Americans and are yet highly rewarded with breaks – almost 4 – 6 weeks of paid vacation. In the case of productivity, a simple comparison would show that the Europeans are as productive as or even more so than our American brethren. A good 137 countries have already gotten ahead of us in guaranteeing their amounts of vacation time for a single employee in a given year.

It is important to understand that a vacation is not merely a luxury that should be limited to the rich. It helps in increasing the levels of one’s lifestyle and adds more depth and meaning to your life. Believe it or not, people are the most productive at their workplaces when they’ve just come back from a break or a vacation.
