Thai massage is a type of body relaxing treatment incorporated with stretching & deep massage. It is a form of bodywork that is performed on floor. Its techniques include muscle compression, joint mobilization & acupressure. This massage reduces stress & increases flexibility. It is offered by licensed massage therapists, who have proper training in it. Thai massage basically includes compression & yoga like bodily manipulations. These movements help in muscle elongation which increases blood flow. Some few basic massage techniques can also be tried at home.
Procedure for a perfect Thai massage:
- Thai massage basically comprises of physical movements, hence, it is very essential to wear a comfortable costume that will not act as a hurdle while doing movements, especially stretching.
- Make the recipient comfortable enough by cushioning him with a soft carpet or mats on the floor.
- In a Thai style massage, compression is the basic stroke to start with. Press the back area, arms & legs of the person seeking massage by your heel or hand. This will help to relax the overused muscles, increase blood circulation & will help in promoting the drainage of the lymph fluids. Thai style massage comprises of motion techniques.
- Compression should be followed with motion
techniques. These movements are simple & can be done even at home. The therapists will move your limbs throughout the massage. Exercises like moving the arm clockwise & anticlockwise, stretching of the arms & rotating hands & feet etc.
- Stretching is an important factor in Thai massage. Although this massage is performed by experts, there are some few exercises in it that can be incorporated in to home sessions. Bend the knees of the recipient to stretch the calf muscles, so that his foot gets perpendicular to the ground. This movement will allow stretching the calf muscles. Similarly, other areas can also be stretched keeping the comfort level in to consideration.
- Torso life is also a very popular movement in a Thai massage. It is comprised with kneeling between the recipients legs & grabbing his arms while he is lying on his stomach. Pull back the recipient which will lift the torso & head off the ground. This will help in stretching the abdominal muscles.
