Step 1
There are some steps which you need to follow if you want to enter in this career. To avoid criminal activities the government has the rule of finger printing, you need to produce a copy of fingerprints which you can get at local police department by fixing an appointment. Mostly the local police accept cash. If you are in Arizona then you have to submit the copy of fingerprints to the state’s Department of Insurance.
Step 2
Insurance exam can be given in online as well as manual type which you have to schedule. You need to enroll for a
course of auto insurance brokerage examination. There are different insurance exams for different states. Some states demand pre test hours of study before exam. You have to learn the required material for insurance test on property and casualty. There are instructional schools available to guide you for online as well as for manual exam. Minimum grades to pass the exam is 70 and 90 is best in case of pretest. In case of online exam your results will be shown immediately after exam. If you are unable to clear the exam in first attempt you are allowed to give again but with a particular time gap.
Step 3
The examination fee costs $50 to $100 which includes copies of transcripts, fingerprints, and background check. Submit the application license form and mail with fingerprint card and fees to the Department of Insurance. You will get the application form from office or you can also download on request from state’s Department of Insurance. Your contact information is also necessary in the form with the exam fee.
Step 4
California is the only state where auto license test is compulsory online. Check the website of Department of Insurance for your license approval, most states no longer issue a paper license. While some states allows you to download the web version of your license. If you are already working in an auto insurance company then the company will be responsible for your license. Many states have a rule to renew the license every two years. This way you can have regular income with some efforts in the initial stages as an insurance representative.
