Setting boundaries in a relation doesn’t mean forcing your partner for something. A boundary in a relation means loving your partner in your own way with respect and care. Every relation need some time, commitment, compromise and understanding between two partners. You always need to know your partner in a better way with trying something new every time. Boundaries should be flexible in your relation it should not make your partner feel like having trapped with you. Knowing the changes you want to make is great but you should also have an idea in your mind to how to change the things as well.

  1. Search what you want

    Boundaries are not disrespectful, bad or wrong; they make you sometimes feel safe and prevent you from being hurt. In every relation a person has to compromise in some way. You may have your own choices which your partner doesn’t like or you may have commitment to your work, family or children. Try to know about yourself search the inner you it will be easier for you to explain things better, clear the things which you can give and which you can’t give to your partner. Cheating, physical relation, emotional abuse etc are the fixed boundaries which a person sometimes gets in a relation without saying.

  2. Know your limitssetting boundaries in relationships

    Setting boundaries raises your self-worth and self esteem. Boundaries in a relationship are dependent on three basic points such as the amount of time, the amount of money and the amount of emotional energy you spend on your relation. Always search for your limits think how much you can give to your relation. Once you get to know about your capacity make boundary and set rule for yourself like how much you can spend, and how much time you are willing to give to your partner and so on. Analyze your relationship to know what can work and what cannot.

  3. Communicate and make things clear

    If you have planned to make boundaries in your relation communicate with your partner freely. He/she might don’t know what’s running in your mind in case of your relation, speak up and clear things openly with a polite tone. Be clear so that your partner should be able to understand you and your limitations for future. Don’t be afraid to express things freely to avoid further problems. Be willing to compromise where necessary.

  4. Understand your partner’s boundary

    The way you have made boundaries for yourself, it might be possible that your partner also have some boundaries. Understand your partner tries to know the needs and limitations of his/her lives make his/her feel comfortable. One you get open with the things both of you will know each other better, and talk about the reasons for disagreement and look out for solution for the same. Respect your partner and by being open and clear everything in the initial stages to spend a healthier and happy relationship.
