Dark Spots Lower Self-Esteem And Cause Embarrassment!

Dark spots or hyperpigmentation can be caused due to sun damages, inflammation or other skin injuries. It refers to darkening of the outermost layers of the skin, especially face. Any person can have hyperpigmentation. It appears in brown, blue or gray colors; depending on the production of melanin. It generally occurs as the body ages over the course of time. These freckles, age spots and darkened skin patches can become intense when exposed to sun. This is because melanin absorbs the ultraviolet energy from sun which is harmful to the skin.

  1. Consult a doctor or a dermatologist, to get proper treatment on dark spots. Doctors may examine or analyze the cause of the condition. There are two types of hyperpigmentations, epidermal and dermal. Epidermal hyperpigmentation appears brown, while dermal hyperpigmentations appears bluer. To check whether it is post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH); doctors may take the help of biopsy test to diagnose the state. It is some times related with lupus, atopic dermatitis and other allergies.

Hydroquinone and steroidal creams like tretinoin are also prescribed by doctors to treat age spots and other dark marks. Acids like glycolic and alpha-hydroxy also help to fade darkening. Various bleaches also help to lighten and fade dark spots on skindarkened skin patches. These bleaches help to slow down the production of melanin in order to achieve normal skin coloration.

These beauty care products include a chemical peel incorporated with essential acids that burns the top layer of the affected dead skin. This procedure allows the fresh skin to come up and ultimately helps in improving skin tone. Another process involved in clearing dark spots, is called “Dermabrasion”. It is a cosmetic medical treatment that removes darkened skin through sanding process. This method does not involve any acids in their process.
  4. One more method involved in treating hyperpigmentation is cryotherapy. This treatment involves a medical procedure that includes freezing the affected areas with the help of liquid nitrogen. This helps in destroying increased pigmentation and discoloration.
  5. Laser therapy is also a best method to disappear dark spots. For effective managing of dermal pigmentation, CO2 laser treatments with ruby and alexandrite lasers are used.
