What is foot neuropathy?

The basic symptoms of foot neuropathy include numbness, pain or burning sensation in your feet. This happens, when peripheral nerves like motor & sensory nerves get damaged. Diagnosis at early stage is advisable. Your feet may feel discomfort when exposed to extreme temperatures. Foot neuropathy requires treatment, without treatment curing is disease is not possible, instead it will encourage the development of symptoms.

A person suffering from diabetes has high sugar level in his blood, which blocks the signals sent by the nerves. In such cases doctors may find it relevant to reduce the dosage or replace it with some mild medicines.

Are smoking and drinking habits responsible?

The answer is yes, people with smoking & drinking habits have got increased chances of suffering from foot neuropathy. Not only drinking & smoking, intake of any other toxic materials may damage the peripheral nerves & blood vessels which is the ultimate cause of this disease. Intake of toxic substances may make your body habituated to diseases, which is not a good signal. Deficiency of vitamins may also lead to development of peripheral damages, excessive intake of Vitamin B6 is advisable.

Diagnosis is very important

Some unusual causes of neuropathy include radiation exposure, leprosy, hypothermia, vascular disorder, lyme disease & some genetic factors. If a patient doubts as a victim of foot neuropathy and faces very unusual symptoms, physicians make go for some analysis of other diseases having same symptoms. Avoid getting into complications. Early diagnosis will help you to recover earlier.

  1. The picture really brings it home doesn’t it! My father got diabetes linked with excessive smoking and drinking and ended up contracting gout and having his leg(s) amputated and eventually died so it is something to really be aware of and best to take steps to prevent this ’silent’ disease before it destroys a life and seriously impacts the family at all levels
